We come in peace, hahaha.
Tiger

The Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I, or simply Tiger, is the medium tank of the Wehrmacht with medium armor and a 88 mm main gun with medium firepower combined with decent speed and maneuverability.[1]

Background[]

Real world history[]

In the first year it saw action, the Tiger was more noted for mechanical failures than its battlefield prowess. As the war shifted and the Germans went over to the defensive, however, this heavy tank struck fear in the hearts of American, British, and Russian tank crews.

Characteristics[]

The Tiger is a solid all-rounder that can easily form the backbone of any armored force. It tends to hold late-game viability well. When first gotten, it beats the M4 Sherman but only holds its own against the T-34-85. With upgrades, it becomes the most powerful Medium Tank and can bully lighter vehicles, even other Panthers, with relative ease.

Availability[]

The German faction gets access to this vehicle as soon as they hit tier 2. It can also be obtained as a random purchase via the Soviet Union Black market.

Upgrades[]

Structure-specific[]

  • Improved Barrels — increase rate of fire and damage per minute, effectively.
  • Experimental Alloys — Increases damage resists of this vehicle.
  • Basic Training — makes all newly-created Tigers start with the first veterancy level.

Gameplay[]

Tactics[]

The Tiger tank is more expensive than other medium tanks but represents a solid, powerful unit for the German faction. It is not too slow and is a good choice of transport for your heroes. Its armor helps it easily bully light vehicles like the Halftrack.

Counters[]

Exoskeleton rockets, Ice Spitters or Sonic tanks can all make life hard for the Tiger. Massed anti-tank infantry can also demolish it eventually. Heavy tanks like the IS-3 Stalin or Maus will also make short work of this machine.

Assessment[]

Pros[]

  • Immediately available once one reaches Tech Level 2.
  • It is superior, once upgraded, to other nation's Tech Level 2 tanks.
  • Reasonable mobility and can keep up well with anti-air units.
  • Combines well with heavier or more specialized vehicles.
  • It has a turret that can turn somewhat quickly.
  • Decent bang for your buck.
  • Can transport heroes.

Cons[]

  • It is not as cheap as the T-34 nor as fast to produce as the M4 Sherman.
  • Vulnerable to powerful specialized units.
  • Not fast enough to quickly respond to certain situations.
  • Requires upgrades to reach full potential.

Quotes[]

  • "We have hungry guns!"

Trivia[]

  • In real life, the Tiger tank was generally superior in head-on engagements to most other Allied vehicles. While it had many faults, a frontal battle between a Tiger 1 and an M4 Sherman would be a somewhat easy victory for the German tank.
  • It seems that a Tiger's chassis is the basis for the Rheintochter.
  • The Tiger is classified as a heavy tank in real life. The Panther is closer to a medium, at least for the Germans, even if other nations considered it too to be a heavy tank.
